Rusted Radishes Journal | مجلة فَمْ
Since 2012, through disaster and upheaval, Rusted Radishes: Beirut Literary and Art Journal has been publishing the most exciting literature and art from the Arab world, forging meaning from the current moment. The journal has evolved from a local Beirut-based English-language publication to a bilingual platform in Arabic and English and one of the Arab world’s most vital spaces for contemporary literature and art. Through our annual print issues, open-access webzine, and special editions, we bring together established writers and emerging voices shaping the cultural and literary landscapes of our region and diaspora. What began as a small initiative is now a living archive: more than a thousand works have been published across our open-access webzine and our annual print issues, each one speaking to the moment in poetry, prose, art, graphic narrative, and multimedia forms. Our growth has come from a thriving community of editors, writers, and artists in Beirut and the region as well as several creative collaborations with sister platforms and institutions. These partnerships have allowed us to deepen our engagement with urgent questions: How do we translate pain in the most painful times? What does labor mean in collapsing economies? How do we address shame, illness, money, and war without simplifying or surrendering to despair? At the heart of this massive undertaking is our mission of nurturing writers through the role of the editor—not as a gatekeeper, but as a companion in the creative process. Our editors spend long hours in dialogue with writers, helping shape each piece with care. This ethos also inspired our podcast series, Hazf wa Idafa, which explores the craft of literary editing, opening up the conversation in the Arab world. Our journal is built on the labor of volunteers—editors, designers, translators, digital content managers—who give their time and hearts to keep this space alive. We are grateful for the support of the American University of Beirut, which has provided funding for the printing costs of the annual special issue as well as event funding; and for the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) for four years of funding to expand our Arabic section as a source of contemporary Arabic literature. However, sustaining the journal as a whole to pay the people who keep it alive depends on the community it serves. In moments of devastation—Lebanon’s economic collapse, the port explosion, Israel’s ongoing attacks on Lebanon and genocide of Palestinians—Rusted Radishes has remained a space for meaning-making in the Arab world and beyond. If you believe in our mission, we invite you to support Rusted Radishes to reach our first fundraising goal for the year: $35,000 Your contribution helps us continue. Your solidarity makes this possible. To learn more about us, check our webzine at www.rustedradishes.com. How will we use $35,000? To pay people! 1. Building on our annual issues which presciently address urgent contexts, most recently themed Sea Change (2019), Health and Illness (2021), Money (2023), Labor & Idleness (2024), and Pain (2025), we will publish our forthcoming themed issue in print and online. Funds will go toward paying contributors, editors, digital content managers, and designers. 2. Keeping our webzine as a current source of literature, art, and critical writing, we will publish one webzine piece per week for the next year. Funds will go toward paying contributors, editors, digital content managers, and designers. 3. We will hire a media manager to boost our networking and outreach and promote our contributors. Stand with Christians in Syria and the Middle East

Emergency

Stand with Christians in Syria and the Middle East
On June 22, 2025, during this past Sunday Mass in Syria, while kids were running around, women dressed nicely, fathers with their children, and the faithful waiting to receive the Eucharist, a suicide bomber attacked the church, killing 27 people so far and injuring many others. The church was believed to be packed with more than 300 people. As Christians in these lands, we’ve preserved for 2000 years, and we are here to stay. To help our brothers and sisters in Christ in Syria, who for their faith in Jesus were killed during prayer, we’ve created this fundraiser to help ease their pain, rebuild the church, and support the families of the wounded and martyred. Any excess funds will go to help persecuted Christians in the Middle East. Now’s the time we can do something and stand strong, all in Christ. Amen. About us: Eastern Christians is the largest digital platform representing Christians in the Levant, Middle East, and North Africa, reaching hundreds of millions globally. We exist to give a strong voice to these communities through awareness, sustainability, and action. Empowering Eastern Christians to stay, thrive, and be seen. @eastern_christians (instagram) Stand For Truth, led by Charlie Bakhos since 2016, defends persecuted Christians worldwide. It has raised funds for churches in Lebanon, helped the poor, supported victims of the 2020 Beirut Blast, and built strong ties with the diaspora.

Help Mona & Dana Raise Funds for Cancer and Autism

Solidarity with Lebanon

Help Mona & Dana Raise Funds for Cancer and Autism
They say you don’t truly know how strong you are until being strong is your only option. Life can hit us with moments that knock the wind out of us, literally and figuratively. For us, Dana and Mona, those moments came in very different forms, but they brought us to the same place: a deep desire to rise up and give back. About Mona’s experience - Last year, I faced a frightening health diagnosis - one of those terrifying pauses in life that changes everything. What began as a routine exam became an alarming medical evaluation when I learned I had breast cancer. Thankfully detected at its earliest most treatable stage, it was surgically removed, and today I’m healthy, strong, and profoundly grateful. Yet my own swift recovery only deepened my awareness of how many people struggle to access early detection, the right treatments, and the emotional support they—and their families—desperately need. That’s why I’m determined to give back: to help ensure more lives are saved through timely diagnosis, quality care, and compassionate community resources. About Dana’s experience: Ten years ago, my first son Zayn was born, almost dead - he stopped oxygen to himself fully for 7 minutes during birth. Those 7 minutes led to weeks in the NICU, developmental delays, years of searching for a diagnosis and necessary therapies as well as endless learning around love, surrender, gratitude and the beauty of the world through his eyes. We have been blessed with the ability to provide him with the best doctors and therapists along the way. Today, Zayn is thankfully thriving on the autism spectrum and enriching our lives like we could not have imagined. I’d like to do my part in ensuring other families get a similar opportunity to thrive. Both experiences left a mark - and a mission. This summer, to honour our journeys and support others still facing their own, we’ve committed to climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro side by side. Together, we’re turning our personal trials into a shared mission of hope, healing and support - shedding light on the work of two amazing NGOs in Lebanon that are deeply personal to us, while also raising $50,000 to support their mission and beneficiaries: Barbara Nassar Association for Cancer Patient Support, an organisation committed to guiding and supporting cancer patients and their families psychologically and financially, by advocating on behalf of patients and providing access to consultations, services, supportive care and medications free of charge; and OpenMinds, an organisation dedicated to empowering children and young adults with autism and neurodevelopmental differences — providing access to therapies, inclusive education and vocational training to families that otherwise would not be able to afford them. We’d be deeply honoured if you’d follow our story, share it, and support these organisations if you're able. Every step we take up that mountain will be for those still facing their own uphill battle, and the life-changing work of these two incredible organisations. With love and gratitude, Mona and Dana

In support of the Anti Racism Movement
In support of the Anti Racism Movement
About ARM Anti-Racism Movement (ARM) organizes alongside migrant workers, including women domestic workers, living and working under the oppressive Kafala system. We work with migrant-led collectives to support their community organizing, collective action, self-advocacy and activism against systemic racism and injustice. ARM’ main pillars of work include community building through our Migrant Community Center (MCC); working on advocacy, campaigning, supporting grassroots initiative building; and through offering legal counseling and casework. Our Story ARM was launched in 2010 as a grassroots collective by young Lebanese feminist activists in collaboration with migrant workers and migrant domestic workers following a racist incident at one of Beirut’s most well-known private beach resorts. ARM activists, using a hidden camera, filmed the administration’s blatant acts of discrimination and segregation. Interest grew in this small volunteer-based movement, members increased, and our interventions grew in scope and scale. Later this year, ARM opened its first MCC and soon after, in 2012, registered officially as an NGO in Lebanon, with a growing staff team in order to increase its capacity to carry out wider operations to fight racist discrimination, abuse and exploitation in Lebanon. ARM works to achieve social, economic and gender justice for all migrant workers and racialized groups in Lebanon. We recognize the significance of self-organizing and actively support Migrant Domestic Worker leadership in rights activism. A primary focus of ARM is women migrant domestic workers living and working under the oppressive Kafala System, which is used to recruit and hire foreign labor in Lebanon, Jordan and the Gulf states. Our Values We adopt a feminist ethics of care in our work, where we value attentiveness, responsibility, responsiveness, and compassion. We also privilege the voices of migrant workers in every aspect of our work. We use a social justice framework as the basis for our approach, upholding fundamental human rights for everyone in our communities. We value the expression and practice of solidarity among all marginalized communities as a necessary alliance against oppressive and unjust systems. We view our everyday work as political and always seek to address the larger social, economic, cultural and policy structures that enable discrimination, abuse, and rights violations. We value the importance of building safe and strong communities that sustain the activism and offer supportive social networks for migrants and their allies. Why Support Us Your contributions are some of the most useful funding we receive. Considering that these donations can be used exactly as we want, it gives us the leniency to prioritize spendings based on the community’s needs. Considering that we are operating in a context of crisis, this margin of freedom is vital for the well being of our work and the communities that we support. We're counting on you!

The House of Christmas
The House of Christmas
Emergency education appeal: Approximately 1.5 million Lebanese students are facing severe disruptions to their education across the country due to multiple compounding factors, including: - the economic collapse that has led to funding shortage, with 55% of Lebanese currently living in poverty - the prolonged impact of the Covid-19 pandemic which has resulted in an estimated loss equivalent to 3.9 years of basic education - the very low teacher retention and limited training opportunities in public schools, with average teacher salary worth 1 to 2 USD per hour - weak schools’ infrastructure exacerbated by approximately 50% of public schools used as shelters - political instability and hostilities Education is our primary source of hope for building a stronger Lebanon and serves as the cornerstone for sustainable development. Since 2023, our mission has been to support this vital sector and assist vulnerable families in a targeted and efficient way, contributing positively to the education of the next generation of Lebanese. We have covered to date school tuitions of more than 100 students across Lebanon based on their socio-economic situation, including students from the following schools: o College St Joseph – Menyara o Evangelical School – Tripoli o Besancon – Beirut o Collège de la Sagesse – Ain El Remaneh o Santa Maria – Ain El Remaneh o N.D. De L’annonciation – Kfarchima o Sacre Cœur – Ain El Kharoubeh o Collège des Sœurs Rosaires – Metn o Collège de la Providence – Nabaa o ثانوية الصلاح الاسلامية – Baalbeck In 2025, the House of Christmas is aiming to strengthen and expand our support to school students with a goal of covering the tuition fees for 200 students across Lebanon. Please help us achieve this goal. The House of Christmas NGO – Overview Brief: The House of Christmas (‘HOC’) was set up by a group of Lebanese professionals living locally and globally to support families living in financial distress across Lebanon, in their various needs: food and basic needs, decent livelihood, housing, medical services, education and legal support. Our first fundraising event was held in December 2017 at the House which turned, for a day, into a proper Christmas market with gifts, kid’s activities, a food court, and a proper spirit of charity, solidarity and compassion to help alleviate the pain, inequality and poverty in Lebanon. Since then, HOC organized several fundraising initiatives; and our network of families has grown exponentially. HOC operates solely on a voluntary basis and is run by a team of dedicated individuals with similar values and common purpose. Mission Statement - Reaching out to families in need across Lebanon to help them regain their dignity and achieve sustainability in their lives. - Providing targeted support to stabilize and strengthen livelihoods Vision Supporting, inspiring, and rebuilding our Lebanese community, family by family. Previous emergency interventions: Following the war that started in August 2024, The House of Christmas collaborated with Offre Joie to cater for the families’ most pressing needs, mostly the elderly’s needs which include medication for chronic disease, diapers, lamps, clothing, covers and water heaters. HOC has also supported other NGOs, INGOs and local initiatives to provide help to the most needy and vulnerable. Following the August 4th blast in 2020, HOC has lead the Livelihood interventions within the Together LiBeirut campaign by supporting small businesses in a targeted and sustainable way and by restoring heritage buildings housing vulnerable families and local businesses. www.togetherlibeirut.org

ائتلاف الأقضية الأربعة #شمالنا
ائتلاف الأقضية الأربعة #شمالنا
Our Story Shamaluna (translates as ‘our North’), is an independent socio-political movement, formed by citizens from Zgharta, Bcharre, Koura and Batroun in search for a better future. “A safer and healthier Lebanon for us and future generations”. While placing the public interest as a basic principle for practicing politics, away from sectarian frameworks and on the basis of equality and social justice, Shamaluna works towards building bottom-up processes in which local communities are mobilized to achieve their social, economic and political rights. In times of Democracy Fatigue, Shamaluna provides a horizontal platform for collective work and decision making: For the first time in Lebanon, Shamaluna is introducing the Primary Election concept, by which the people are provided with the opportunity to choose the candidates that represent them in the upcoming parliamentary elections 2022. Why Support Us While Shamaluna is a volunteer-led initiative, our establishment is expanding as the parliamentary election approaches, which requires that the team fully dedicates itself to the political campaign in order to make this experience a successful one. Being financially unrestricted guarantees our sovereignty, therefore we only accept unconditional grants. We count on the financial support of caring individuals like ourselves, with clear and open agendas. People who believe that this leading project is laying the groundwork for a more prosperous future, further away from corruption and nepotism. Hoping that this initiative will be the first of many to come.

I Can't Do This Alone Anymore. Help Me Help Them!
I Can't Do This Alone Anymore. Help Me Help Them!
Since 2016, I’ve been rescuing and caring for animals (all species) in need—completely on my own. Today, I have 15 dogs (half of them seniors), 5 cats, and 3 goats under my care. They don’t live in a shelter but in a house entirely for them because I believe they deserve a real home, wihtout the hardships of shelter life. My seniors will stay under my wing forever, safe and loved. The younger ones are still looking for homes. Beyond those in my care, I feed dozens of stray animals on the streets every day, making sure they don’t go hungry. Over the years, I’ve also found loving homes for 50+ dogs, giving them a second chance at life. Lebanon has faced unimaginable hardship—economic collapse, skyrocketing inflation, and, most recently, the war that shook our country last year. Through it all, I continued to care for these animals, funding everything on my own, with very little help. But I’ve hit rock bottom, especially after relocating twice in one year which led me to spending thousands of dollars to make the new locations as comfortable as possible for them. Food, medical bills, and daily care have become overwhelming, and I can no longer do this alone. I never wanted to ask for help, but I have no choice. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. It will help provide food, medical care, and a safe, loving space for these beautiful souls. In addition to supporting my rescues, I also want to help other rescuers and shelters with spaying/neutering their dogs—one of the most effective ways to reduce suffering. If you’d like, you can donate specifically toward spaying/neutering efforts to help even more animals, including the strays I come across. If you can’t donate, please share this campaign—spreading the word is just as valuable. I’ve done everything I can to protect them, but now I need your help to keep going. 🌱 “Until every cage is empty, every chain is broken, and every soul is free, we keep fighting for them.” 🌱 Compassion for all animal species... Donate, if you can...
