My Name is Monir — I Am Only Asking for a Chance to Begin

Assalamu Alaikum,
My name is Shafiqul Islam Monir, and I live in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.

It took me a long time to gather the courage to write these words.

I have always believed that a man should stand on his own feet. I never imagined I would ask strangers for help. But today, I am not asking for charity. I am asking for a chance — a small chance — to begin my life with dignity.

I work small daily jobs. I earn just enough to survive — to eat, to pay basic expenses, and to keep going. Every month I promise myself I will save for my marriage. Every month, something unexpected happens. A medical cost. A family need. An emergency. And once again, my savings return to zero.

In my society, marriage is not a celebration of luxury.

It is protection.
It is stability.
It is peace of mind.
It is dignity.

Without marriage, life feels incomplete and uncertain. Socially and emotionally, it becomes very difficult.

I am not dreaming of a grand wedding.

No gold.
No stage.
No expensive event.
No show.

I only need:
• A simple marriage registration
• Basic household necessities
• A small, humble start to build a responsible family life

The minimum amount required is about $1,800.

I tried everything within my reach — relatives, small loans, local help. In my country, people generously help when someone is sick or hungry. But rarely for marriage.

So today, with humility in my heart, I am turning to the wider world.

I am not asking you to change my life.

I am only asking for a chance to start it.
