My name is Nelson Kiwagi and I represent Greener Earth Community Advocacy,GECA, a community-based organization working at the grassroots level in Wakiso District, Uganda. Kajjansi town Council has 11 parishes and a population of 115,058
Climate Change, inadiquate domestic Waste Management, lack of landfills, open dumping (especially in wetlands) Environmental degradation, and unemployment are key threats to livelihoods, heath, and the future generation especially the volunarable communities including women, youth, and children in Kajjansi Town Council, The crisis is a huge threat Kampala and Wakiso Districts and Kiteezi Landfill in Wakiso District collapsed in August 2024, and over 28 people lost their lives .

This campaign aims to mobilize support for community- led sustainability initiatives focused on environmental education, sustainable waste management, climate change action and tree planting.

GECA aims to implement an integrated community Pilot project in 1out of the 11 parishes, Kitende Parish which has a population of 37761 and 10506 households. We shall apply the Community Knowledge Workers, (CKW) model - for cost effectiveness, and low Unit cost of sensitisation, community ownership & sustainability Our key focus is as below;
1.Sustainable Waste Management
2. Climate Change Resilience
3. Tree Planting & Environmental/ Eco system Restoration
4.Improved Livelihoods

12,000 people sensitised
6 CKWs trained, deployed & empowered
2 waste sorting & Recycling points established
3000 households adopting waste sorting
15 schools participating in environmental education
5,000 tree planting, - Indigenous and fruit trees mainly Musizi (Maesopsis Eminii ) & Mango tree (Mangifera Indica )Avocado (Persea americana)
10 youth and women groups engaged in green enterprises
6 clean-up activities conducted.

Improved green cover and restored community ecosystems
