After more than a decade of war, Syria’s health system is in ruins. Hospitals have been damaged or destroyed and even basic treatment costs more than many families can pay.

Zahrat Al-Madayen Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing medical care and support to children with disabilities in Damascus. The association works with children suffering from paralysis, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, and orthopedic conditions. Many of them have no access to treatment due to Syria’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.

The association is raising funds for urgent surgery and rehabilitation for five children whose conditions are treatable, but whose families cannot afford the care.

The Children We're Helping

- Omar, 3½, was born with meningeal hydrocephalus and a spinal cord deformity. He cannot walk or control his lower limbs. His mother, Samira, has to watch her son live with paralysis that surgery and physical rehabilitation could help address. Omar's care is our first goal.

- Osama has cerebral palsy, with significant motor and speech delays and severe flexion contractures that require surgical intervention.

- Maya has severe thoracic kyphosis (Scheuermann's disease), a progressive spinal condition that causes pain and steadily takes away her mobility.

- Islam has external rotation in both lower limbs, which limits her movement and causes her pain.

- Rahf has flat feet and external rotation that need surgical correction and intensive therapy.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

Our first goal is $1,000 to fund Omar's treatment. Beyond that, funds will go toward the care of Osama, Maya, Islam, and Rahf. Donations will support:

- Surgical procedures and anesthesia
- Orthopedic devices and prosthetics
- Post-operative physical therapy and rehabilitation
- Medical monitoring and follow-up care
- Transportation to medical facilities
