Urgent Appeal for Help: Requesting Donations to Repair Our Leaking Roof
​Dear Friends and Well-wishers,
​I am writing this with a heavy heart, seeking your kind generosity to help my family overcome a severe hardship. My name is Dinelka Madushani Gunasekara.
​Currently, our house has an old tin/sheet roof that is completely deteriorated. During sunny days, the heat inside the house becomes unbearable. Even worse, the roof has numerous small holes, causing rainwater to leak inside during the rainy season. With the heavy rains expected to start in just a month, we are terrified. I am an asthma patient, and cold weather combined with dampness makes me severely ill very quickly. If we don’t fix this roof before the rains start, I will have to face severe health complications.
​Our Current Situation:
My husband is the sole breadwinner, working tirelessly to support us. However, his income is barely enough for us to survive. I completed a portion of my higher education but could not finish my degree due to a lack of financial resources, which has made finding a good job extremely difficult.
​Furthermore, I am unable to work in places like garment factories because I suffer from medical conditions; my legs swell when I stand for long periods, and due to my severe asthma, being exposed to dust causes me acute breathing difficulties.
​Our Financial Struggle:
We receive a small government assistance allowance of LKR 2,500 per month, but with today's cost of living, that amount is not even enough to buy food for three days. To manage our expenses, I often skip my lunch without even telling my husband, just to ensure he has enough food to take to work. In this financial reality, building a proper house, owning a vehicle, or even affording daily nutritious meals is a distant dream for us.
​Right now, our immediate and most critical need is to repair our roof so we can stay dry and safe.
