"I have sold everything I own for my dogs, and now I have nothing else to sell."
These words come from Tony, a man in his 60s living in the mountains of Aintoura, El Metn.
Years ago, Tony heard that some street dogs’ lives were being threatened. He couldn’t bear the thought of leaving them behind, so he took them in, and he never really stopped.
Today, Tony looks after around 40 dogs. Some have been under his care for seven years. Some are friendly and playful, while others need their own space because they don’t get along with the rest. So, with whatever resources he could find, Tony put together a small shelter and separate spaces to keep every dog safe.
It’s not a fancy shelter. There are no big sponsors or teams of volunteers. Just Tony, his dogs, and a whole lot of love.
Over the years, he’s sold his land and possessions to cover food, veterinary bills, and everything else the dogs need.
Tony still works, but what he earns is nowhere near enough to cover all the bills he needs to pay. He’s now struggling financially, with debts piling up and more expenses coming every month.
Keeping the dogs fed, healthy, vaccinated, and regularly dewormed costs at least $2,000 a month, and expenses can sometimes reach $5,000.
When I learned about his situation, I was very touched. He was extremely worried about the veterinary bills. Even with everything he’s going through, his biggest concern is making sure the dogs receive the care they need.
And that’s why I’m sharing his story, in the hope that I can connect him with people who could really help him.
Tony is looking for help for himself and his dogs. 🤍
Donations: Whether it’s $5, $10, or anything you can spare, every contribution helps with food, medical care, and the shelter’s everyday expenses.
Veterinary support: If you’re a veterinarian, NGO, rescue organization, or someone who can help sponsor vaccinations, deworming, sterilizations, or outstanding vet bills, we’d be incredibly grateful to hear from you.
Adoptions: Tony loves these dogs like family, but he’s more than happy to see them find loving homes. The female dogs are sterilized, while the males have not yet been neutered. The dogs are vaccinated, and anyone interested in adopting can reach out to me for more information.
And if you can’t donate or adopt, please share. Sometimes the right person is just one repost away.
Tony doesn’t have a WHISH account or another digital payment method, so I’ll be collecting donations on his behalf and passing the funds directly to him for the dogs.
If you’d feel more comfortable paying veterinary expenses directly, that’s absolutely possible too. I can help connect you with Tony’s veterinarian.
I’ll also do my best to share updates, donation records, and veterinary receipts moving forward so you can see where your contributions are going.
Tony never planned on becoming a rescuer. He just couldn’t walk away when these dogs needed someone. For years, he’s been their safe place.
Maybe, with a little help from all of us, we can help him keep it that way.
