In Solidarity with Lebanon's Displaced
The situation in Lebanon is critical. Our country has been grappling with a severe economic crisis for the past few years, with an estimated 44% of the population living below the poverty line. Now, the Lebanese people are consumed by intensive and unprecedented bombing. Thousands of civilians have been killed, wounded and disappeared. Over one million displaced from Southern Lebanon, Bekaa, and the suburbs of Beirut have nowhere to seek refuge. Some have found shelter in schools, but many are forced to live on the streets. We urgently need to support our people.

LACR in brief:
The Lebanese Association for Civil Rights (LACR) is one of the leading human rights organizations in Lebanon, established in 2003. Its origins trace back to efforts initiated during the civil war in 1983 by two thinkers and activists, Walid SLAYBI and Ogarit YOUNAN, who were awarded the International Gandhi Prize in 2022.
Recognized for its expertise and innovative approaches, LACR operates during both conflict and peacetime, focusing on various groups including youth, workers, teachers, people with disabilities, and women. The organization works with public and private schools, promotes dialogue and reconciliation within communities, and advocates for legal reforms. Among its initiatives are: Non-Violent Houses in villages (BILAD, meaning "the country"); Non-sectarian Non-violent Youth (CHAML, a political action movement); Non-Violent Mothers (UMAHAT, promoting civil peace and opposing war); a Continuing Training Center for all categories (with Slaybi and Younan being pioneers of interactive training in Lebanon); the National Campaign for the Abolition of the Death Penalty in Lebanon (LACR is a member of the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty and received the French Republic's Human Rights Prize in 2005); and the National Campaign for Civil Marriage in Lebanon.
In 2014, the founders of LACR realized their dream by establishing the Academic University for Non-Violence and Human Rights (AUNOHR), a unique of its kind in Lebanon and globally, offering master’s programs and diplomas.
