Dear Friends, It is not easy for me to share our story even as I still try to come to terms with all that has happened in the past few weeks. My daughter was born prematurely at just 23 weeks and was born the size of my palm, weighing only 530 grams. Her delivery was an emergency surgery due to complications in my wife’s health condition and then even before we could hold her in our arms for a while, our baby was rushed to the NICU, and she was soon fixed to various tubes and wires that monitored her every breath. The doctors warned us that she would need to remain in the NICU for at least 120 days before she is well enough to return home. Every time I look at her, I am awestruck by the will to live my miracle baby even though every organ in her body is underdeveloped and her respiratory functions are too weak.
The unexpected nature of this medical emergency has brought us immense emotional and financial turmoil. Childcare is not cheap, and my baby's life-saving medical treatments are beyond what we can afford. The hospital bills are mounting faster than we can manage and this is only the beginning.
