Title: A 22-Year Medical Battle: Help My Brave Wife Survive a High-Risk Pregnancy and Hysterectomy
Dear Friends, Donors, and Well-Wishers,
My name is Sasanka , and I am reaching out to you today with a heart full of hope but limited options. I am writing to ask for your support to help my beautiful, incredibly brave 34-year-old wife, Priyanwada , realize her lifelong dream of becoming a mother, while keeping her alive. Her life has been an unimaginable journey of medical pain, but she has never given up. Now, we are just one final step away from our miracle, but a massive financial wall stands in our way.
A Childhood Trapped in Medical Pain
At just 12 years old, living in a remote village in Monaragala, Sri Lanka, my wife suffered from severe abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with a rare congenital vaginal obstruction that caused menstrual blood to accumulate inside her uterus. At a time when medical technology in our country was limited, she underwent multiple failed surgeries. Finally, a renowned specialist performed a complex vaginoplasty, reconstructing her vaginal tract using a piece of her own bowel.
While this saved her life, it left her with chronic, painful complications. Because of the bowel tissue, she suffers from frequent, severe infections. Even using a public restroom can trigger a crisis. When blocked, she endures excruciating pain for weeks.
Our Marriage and a New Battle
We married when she was 29. I loved her deeply and knew all her medical history, but my only wish was to build a beautiful family with her. However, tragedy struck again. Shortly after our marriage, she developed a severe pelvic abscess that required an emergency open surgery. This surgery revealed that all her internal organs had adhered to each other (severe pelvic adhesions) due to past operations. Later, another abscess developed, requiring a painful biopsy and drainage.
Our Final Hope: High-Risk IVF at Ninewells Hospital
We sought fertility treatment at Ninewells Hospital, Colombo. However, our challenges intensified during the egg collection phase, when my wife suffered a life-threatening infection due to her complex internal anatomy. Her CRP levels skyrocketed, and she spent 10 days in the hospital on heavy intravenous antibiotics just to survive.
Despite all the odds, we have fought hard. We have successfully created and frozen two embryos.
The Dangerous Final Step: Pregnancy and Immediate Hysterectomy
Because her uterus is severely damaged and highly prone to life-threatening infections, carrying this pregnancy to term is an extreme risk. After extensive medical evaluations, the specialists have decided on a critical medical plan: We will transfer the embryo into her uterus, but at the exact moment our baby is delivered via Cesarean section, surgeons must immediately perform a total hysterectomy (remove her uterus) to save her life from catastrophic infection and complications.
Why We Need You
The cost of this highly specialized IVF transfer, continuous high-risk prenatal care, the complex joint delivery, and the immediate life-saving hysterectomy surgery totals 5 Million LKR (Approximately $17,000 USD).
Living in Sri Lanka under difficult economic conditions, this amount is an impossible mountain for us to climb alone. We have exhausted all our life savings on her previous open surgeries and the initial IVF stages.
Your donation, no matter how small, will directly fund the hospital bills and surgical costs to bring our baby into the world and keep my wife alive. If you cannot donate, please share our story. You are giving a woman who has known only pain since childhood the ultimate joy of holding her baby safely.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
