Urgent Appeal:
The current war in Lebanon has caused so far 1 million people to be displaced from the south of Lebanon, many forced out of their homes and villages as they feared for their lives. Displaced individuals and families are being sheltered and welcomed in families homes, in centers and in schools. In this emergency situation, several initiatives and NGOs are putting efforts to support the displaced and ensure their basic needs.
The House of Christmas has chosen to collaborate with credible and well-established associations and initiatives which are present in the schools and centers; mainly to cater for the needs of the elderly who are particularly vulnerable due of their age and their specific needs.
Since the beginning of the crisis, Offre Joie is exerting all efforts to bring hope and support to the displaced. The association is attending to needs of approximately 1220 displaced in three centers located in Clemenceau, Kfifane and Maad. They mainly offer sleeping accommodations and all meals and are ready to cater for other pressing needs such as hygiene items, and specific support to the elderly if donations are received to cover them. Their community center in Mar Mikhael provides a call center and the kitchen where meals are prepared.
The House of Christmas will collaborate with Offre Joie to cater for the families’ most pressing needs, mostly the elderly’s needs which include medication for chronic disease, diapers, lamps, clothing, covers and water heaters. We will also support other NGOs, INGOs and local initiatives to provide help to the most needy and vulnerable.
The House of Christmas NGO – Overview
Brief:
The House of Christmas (‘HOC’) was set up by a group of Lebanese professionals living locally and globally to support families living in financial distress across Lebanon, in their various needs: food and basic needs, decent livelihood, housing, medical services, education and legal support.
Our first fundraising event was held in December 2017 at the House which turned, for a day, into a proper Christmas market with gifts, kid’s activities, a food court, and a proper spirit of charity, solidarity and compassion to help alleviate the pain, inequality and poverty in Lebanon.
Since then, HOC organized several fundraising initiatives; and our network of families has grown exponentially.
HOC operates solely on a voluntary basis and is run by a team of dedicated individuals with similar values and common purpose.
Mission Statement
- Reaching out to families in need across Lebanon to help them regain their dignity and achieve sustainability in their lives.
- Providing targeted support to stabilize and strengthen livelihoods
Vision
Supporting, inspiring, and rebuilding our Lebanese community, family by family.
Previous emergency interventions:
Following the August 4th blast, HOC has lead the Livelihood interventions within the Together LiBeirut campaign by supporting small businesses in a targeted and sustainable way and by restoring heritage buildings housing vulnerable families and local businesses.
