Support George Ostrowski’s Fight Against Cancer George Ostrowski is a beloved husband, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, son, history teacher, coach, and friend. To know George is to love him—he’s a wonderful, sweet, generous, and kind soul with a heart as big as his appetite (and trust us, that’s saying something!). He’s touched so many lives with his warmth and spirit, especially those lucky enough to call him family or friend. Recently, George—my sister’s husband and my incredible brother-in-law—received a devastating diagnosis: Advanced Stage Hodgkins Lymphoma. At just the start of their married life, fresh off their honeymoon, George and my sister now face a challenging road ahead. For the next six months, George will undergo intensive treatments, each requiring a long journey. Unable to work during this time, he’s determined to push through with his trademark resilience. But this battle comes with heavy financial burdens: medical treatments, transportation, food, housing, cleaning and pet care to name a few. That’s where we need your help. I am an OFW currently living in Cambodia, far away from my home in the Philippines. This is a story I never thought I would have to tell, but I am sharing it now with humility and hope. Amber, my Labrador Retriever, came into my life unexpectedly. A person I knew gave him to me after learning how much I love dogs. Back home in the Philippines, I already have five dogs. When Amber was offered to me, I learned that no one else was willing to take responsibility for him. Out of compassion—and without thinking of the long-term consequences—I took him in. I couldn’t bear the thought of him being neglected or abandoned. Time passed, and Amber became more than just a dog. He became my family. We grew together, faced loneliness together, and found comfort in each other in a foreign land. Now, Amber is getting older, and my heart tells me it’s time to bring him home with me to the Philippines. That’s when reality hit me hard. I discovered that bringing Amber back home would cost around USD 3,000—for permits, vaccinations, quarantine requirements, and travel expenses. As an OFW, I have tried to save, but my savings are simply not enough to cover this amount. There were moments when I thought about leaving him behind or giving him to someone else. But every time I look into Amber’s eyes—eyes full of trust, love, and loyalty—I break. I cannot imagine the fear and confusion he would feel if I left him. After all these years, he only knows me as his home. I am not asking for help lightly. I am asking because I truly cannot do this alone. With all my heart, I am asking for your support to help me bring Amber safely home to the Philippines. Any amount, any share, any kind word means more than you can imagine. Many are victims of road accidents, cruelty, abandonment, or natural disasters. Wildlife animals are also hurt due to human activity and loss of habitat. These animals have no voice, no protection, and no way to ask for help. This is why your support is urgently needed. Every day, kind-hearted volunteers and animal caregivers across Sri Lanka work tirelessly to rescue injured and abandoned animals. They provide food, shelter, and medical treatment, often using their own limited resources. Unfortunately, the need is far greater than what they can handle alone. Emergency medical care, surgeries, medicines, and daily food costs continue to rise, making it extremely difficult to save every animal in need. Many animals require immediate medical attention due to severe injuries, broken bones, infections, or life-threatening conditions. Emergency surgeries can mean the difference between life and death. Without timely treatment, these innocent lives are lost — not because they cannot be saved, but because help did not arrive in time.
