Emergency homes! Gaza’s People Need 30,000 shelter
After more than one year of unimaginable suffering, Israel was destroying every single life in Gaza with genocide. The Gaza Strip has experienced significant destruction, leading to a critical shortage of shelter for its residents. As of February 2025, approximately 1.8 million people over 80% of Gaza's population have been displaced due to ongoing conflicts, with many living in overcrowded conditions. According to the UN, at least 1.9 million people or about 90 percent of the population across the Gaza Strip are internally displaced. Many have been displaced repeatedly, some 10 times or more. As of 29 October 2024, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH) in Gaza as reported by OCHA, at least 43,061 Palestinians have reportedly been killed in Gaza and 101,223 have been reported injured (between 7 October 2023 and 29 October 2024). Now, Gaza’s people need 30.000 shelters to survive, valued at 600$ for each shelter. I am Amir Abu Al-Sabh, a resident of northern Gaza. I recount my harrowing experience of fleeing repeated threats and bombardment over several months. After the neighborhood was hit by white phosphorus bombs, my family and I fled to my aunt’s house, only to be displaced again within a week. Moving between different areas, including Al-Shifa Hospital, Khan Younis and Rafah, we endured six displacements in total due to ongoing military threats and ground invasions. Throughout this period, we faced horrific conditions, including lack of shelter, food, water and harsh weather. Despite assistance from UNRWA, our suffering continued. Now, having lost everything, I am left with my wife and three children, Omar, Seela and baby Mila, begging for help on a journey of resilience and hardship, trying to survive poverty and helplessness and rebuild our lives.
