Funding the Gap: Support the Displaced in Lebanon
The war on Lebanon rages on and the number of displaced people is constantly increasing as Israel expands its attacks on densely populated civilian towns and neighborhoods across South Lebanon and the Bekaa. Humanitarian aid initiatives are also increasing, but more is still needed, with a large number of families stranded off the radar of these initiatives. Reefna (our countryside) is an association based in Southern Lebanon that aims to create open and diverse spaces for dialogue and thinking and to build bridges between different communities in Lebanon. Through our network of friends and supporters we have gained access to an increasing number of families that are stranded in different displacement locations with little access, if any at all, to basic services. We are trying to fill some of the many gaps. Today we are in touch with more than 500 families who are off the radar of humanitarian assistance, and we intend to change that, with your support. The needs are enormous, with winter closing in. We aim to provide dry food assistance, mattresses, medicine, and baby care essentials and female hygiene products for those in need. These families have rough moments ahead of them, help us make them feel hopeful, resilient and not abandoned. Our work has started with the support of our friends, but we need to scale up our support and expand our reach to fund the increasing gap. Give Baby Jawad a life-saving heart surgery

Give Baby Jawad a life-saving heart surgery
UPDATE: We have lowered the fundraising goal because the family has been able to find another hospital, Hotel Dieu, with specialists who can do the surgery at a much lower cost than the American University of Beirut Medical Center. The total cost of the surgery will be $20,000, and $10,000 of that will be covered by a philanthropic fund. HOWEVER, the hospital will not admit baby Jawad or do the surgery until the receive the full amount. In addition, the family has already incurred several thousand dollars in costs for his care at the hospital where he was born, which does not have the ability to do the surgery. We urgently need to reach $10,000 in order to be able to get him admitted to Hotel Dieu and into surgery. Baby Jawad was born in a Beirut hospital with a heart defect that requires open heart surgery. He urgently needs to be transferred to the American University of Beirut Medical Center where specialists are prepared to perform the surgery, but the cost - even after a discount from the hospital and contribution by a philanthropic fund - is $41,000, and the hospital requires an upfront payment of $20,000 before they will transfer him. Baby Jawad's parents have no way to raise that kind of money. His mother's heart is breaking. Please help save Baby Jawad's life and give him and his family a future. If the full amount of funds is not raised via this campaign, the money will still be given to the family to go toward the medical costs for baby Jawad's care.

“Soon I will be cold, I left my cloths at home. Soon I will be sick, I left my pills at home. Soon I will be sad, because I left my heart at home” , Zeina a displaced young Lebanese woman. “They Came, we welcomed, they needed food, we provided, they needed shelter we offered our homes. We shared what we had, will always do ... Until there is nothing enough to be shared” Boutros a vulnerable Lebanese hosting a displaced family. In the midst of Lebanon's most devastating humanitarian crisis, 1.2 million people have been forced to flee their homes, leaving behind their livelihoods and communities. With an overwhelmed healthcare system, soaring food insecurity, and rising prices, countless Lebanese families are struggling to access even the basics—food, medicine, and hygiene essentials. However, the host communities that CHREEK already serves are among the poorest in Lebanon and are themselves in a state of critical need. Many of these communities are facing severe poverty, with scarce resources now stretched beyond their limits as they work to accommodate and support displaced families. Our priority is to bring urgent assistance not only to the displaced but also to the hosting communities who are bearing the brunt of this crisis. Without immediate support, both groups face worsening shortages in essential resources, putting lives at risk and straining an already fragile social fabric. Your contribution will allow us to provide crucial aid—including food, hygiene kits, emergency shelter, and medical supplies—that can sustain both the displaced and the communities sheltering them. This campaign isn’t just about short-term relief; it’s about empowering our communities to rebuild. CHREEK NGO, a locally trusted organization with over 10 years of experience in crisis management, is dedicated to delivering not only immediate aid but also hope and lasting support to the Lebanese people. Why CHREEK Stands Out • Transparent and Direct Impact: With a clear breakdown of every dollar, you’ll know how your donation provides real, tangible support to those who need it most. Each $10 donated supplies a hygiene kit; each $50 funds a month’s worth of food; every $100 helps provide critical medication for the elderly and vulnerable. • Supporting Local Resilience: CHREEK’s approach combines emergency relief with projects designed to foster community resilience. We work hand-in-hand with local leaders and communities to create solutions that will continue to support people long after immediate relief efforts are over. • An Invitation to Be a Lifeline: We’re not just asking for donations; we’re inviting you to be part of a family committed to rebuilding hope in Lebanon. Your support today has the power to sustain a community tomorrow. Use of Funds • 40% - Urgent Food & Hygiene Kits: Directly delivered to families and shelters. • 30% - Critical Medication: Focusing on chronic illness support and emergency medical supplies. • 20% - Shelter & Hygiene: Essential supplies for temporary shelters and displacement camps. • 10% - Supporting Sustainable Efforts: Developing community-led projects to ensure food security and economic resilience. One could ask, what can one organization do to a country? What can my dollar do to help anybody? Your dollar has a specific small impact like our action to these 2 million problems!!! They would be one problem less! We need you!

The initiative aims to reach all segments of society, including displaced women, , and women from host communities, through a comprehensive plan that focuses on addressing their diverse needs. Specialized training will be provided to enhance women's capabilities in facing the crises and challenges they encounter in difficult circumstances. This training will cover various areas, such as life skills, handicrafts, and financial management, contributing to their economic and social empowerment. In addition, the initiative will offer psychological and social support aimed at enhancing women's mental health through individual and group sessions. These sessions will help them cope with psychological pressures and mitigate the effects of the difficult experiences they have undergone. They will also contribute to building their self-confidence and encourage them to express their feelings and communicate more effectively with their social surroundings. The initiative also seeks to empower women in the long term by providing the necessary tools to build their self-capacities, thereby enhancing their role in their communities as drivers of positive change and sustainable development. Our project aims to bridge this gap by distributing food assistance and hygiene kits, as well as offering sessions for mental health and social support, and providing recreational activities for children, such as drawing, to alleviate the psychological trauma they have experienced during the conflict. The food assistance provided by the project includes ready-to-eat meals and easy-to-prepare items to ensure that families' nutritional needs are met quickly. Hygiene kits will also be distributed to protect them from germs and diseases. These aids are intended to provide short-term support until beneficiaries can regain their independence or return to their homes after the war. ### Specific Objective 1: Economically Support Displaced and Host Families in Tripoli - **Activity 1.1:** Provide 1,000 hot meals. - **Activity 1.2:** Distribute 1,000 food packages to 1,000 families. - **Activity 1.3:** Provide 1,000 hygiene kits to 1,000 families. ### Specific Objective 2: Enhance the Psychological and Social Skills of Displaced and Host Families in Tripoli - **Activity 2.1:** Conduct a recreational drawing activity for 100 children. - **Activity 2.2:** Offer 6 life skills training sessions for 100 displaced women, each lasting 3 hours, covering topics such as communication (1 session), conflict resolution (1 session), self-awareness (1 session), decision-making (1 session), problem-solving (1 session), and stress management (1 session). - **Activity 2.3:** Provide 10 psychosocial support sessions for 100 displaced women. - **Activity 2.4:** Conduct psychosocial support sessions for 100 children.
