Equipping Lebanon's First Responders 2026
March 2026: We are fundraising to equip Lebanon’s national first responders - The Civil Defense (الدفاع المدني) with essential and life-saving supplies. Hundreds of Israeli airstrikes have hit Lebanon over the past six days, resulting in tens of thousands of people being displaced, over 100 villages and towns being declared military zones, and—at the time of writing—more than 200 people killed. The violence is ongoing, placing the Lebanese Civil Defense once again on the front lines. They are the first to arrive at the scenes of the strikes, even when the unimaginable happens. We urgently need to be there for them. And your support provides the critical resources these first responders need to keep vital rescue operations moving during this, unfortunately, precedented escalation. Almost three years on, they continue to operate under unimaginable pressure, responding to emergencies with limited and almost no resources while risking, sometimes even sacrificing, their lives to rescue civilians, provide first aid, and clear debris from devastated areas. Despite the prolonged nature of the conflict, their work never stopped and the ongoing aggression has intensified the demands of their job. Ensuring they are equipped and supported remains an urgent need to sustain their lifesaving efforts and protect themselves and communities across the country. We started this fundraiser in 2024 and have been able to secure a significant amount of funds for the Lebanese Civil Defense; we were able to purchase required equipment for a variety of centers across the country. This equipment saved lives and protected first responders. Today, we find ourselves in this situation, yet again, with centers all over the country in need of immediate support. We are reactivating this campaign to raise funds and purchase required equipment. **What will this campaign do? How many first responders and firefighters will you equip? What has this campaign already done?** Your donations will be used to purchase equipment and meet the urgent needs of as many civil defense units as possible, based on our resources and their needs. In our past campaign, we were able to work with the following civil defense units at different capacities: Sour and Derdghaiya (Tyre), Baalbek, Bidnayel and Aarsal (Baalbek), Hrajel (Mount Lebanon), Kfarshima and Mreijeh (Baabda), Deir Al-Ahmar (Bekaa), Bachoura and Ras Beirut (Beirut). With your support, our last campaign raised $89,973 that went towards vehicles, boots, operation costs, firefighting equipment including bulletproof helmets, outfits, and boots, rescue equipment including ambulance set-ups and first aid supplies. The Lebanese Civil Defense has 208 centers across the country. Civil Defense duties include disaster response, providing emergency first aid, ambulance services, evacuating civilians in the event of crises, enforcing public safety, and putting out fires. Volunteers are on call round the clock, seven days a week and you can reach them by dialing 125 from any phone in Lebanon. Your involvement (even by just spreading the word!) will remind our first responders that they are not alone. As the aggression continues we also want to reflect on the work that continues to give our communities hope and keeps us working in solidarity with one another towards a better future. **Who is managing this campaign?** This campaign is managed by a group of concerned residents who are long-time grassroots organizers in Beirut. We are compelled to try and support the Civil Defense in the face of economic, political, and military aggression. **How can we send the donation?** If you are in Beirut, one of the campaign managers can meet you wherever it is convenient. WHISH Money transfers and Western Union are also options. You can send your WHISH Money transfers or Western Union transfers to: + Rami Rajeh (+961-3-428066), + Bana Bashour (+961-3-059327), or + Yusra Bitar (+961-70-459066) **How will the Civil Defense receive my donation?** Your donation will be directly transferred to a volunteer procurement team on the ground who will purchase the equipment and hand them directly to the Civil Defense centers. **How can we make sure the donations actually reach the Civil Defense?** The whole operation will be managed through transparent procurement procedures, where all receipts and invoices are documented and shared with donors. Every piece of equipment has the power to rescue and protect lives. We are filled with gratitude for the courage of our Civil Defense volunteers and for the solidarity of people like you around the world who made much of their work possible. Emergency Wildlife Rescue Center – Lebanon

Emergency Wildlife Rescue Center – Lebanon
As instability rises, roads close, borders shut down, and supply chains become uncertain. Wildlife emergencies do not stop during war. In many cases they increase. Lebanese Wildlife is the only certified wildlife rehabilitation authority in the country. Injured, confiscated, and displaced wild animals depend on our ability to continue operating safely. For years, our rescue and rehabilitation work has operated from a home based setup while responding to wildlife emergencies across Lebanon. Recently, we secured 2,000 square meters of land to build the country’s first dedicated wildlife rehabilitation center, which will become the foundation of Lebanon’s first wildlife hospital. This was meant to be a long term project. But the return of war has forced us to accelerate. Our current operational location is no longer secure enough to guarantee the safety of the animals in our care or the continuity of our rescue operations. If roads close or supplies become unavailable, our ability to care for wildlife could be severely compromised. To protect the animals and ensure that rescue work can continue, we must urgently activate part of the secured land and relocate our operations to a safer site. Phase 1 of this project will activate 800 square meters of the land using prefabricated structures and essential infrastructure so that the facility can begin operating as soon as possible. Our goal is to raise 120,000 USD to make this emergency relocation possible. This funding will allow us to install prefabricated clinic and intake units, ICU and quarantine structures, secure temporary enclosures, electricity and water systems, generator backup power, and the essential infrastructure required to operate safely. It will also allow us to transport animals and medical equipment and to stockpile critical food and medications in case borders close and supply chains are interrupted. Wildlife in Lebanon already faces immense pressure from habitat loss, illegal hunting, and wildlife trafficking. War multiplies every threat. If Lebanese Wildlife cannot operate safely, injured and confiscated wildlife will have nowhere to go. There is no alternative wildlife rehabilitation center in the country. This emergency phase will allow us to establish a safe operational base and continue rescuing wildlife while laying the groundwork for the full rehabilitation center that will be developed in the future. Wildlife does not get to escape war. Animals cannot leave when borders close or when conflict spreads. They depend entirely on the people willing to protect them. Lebanese Wildlife has never stopped responding to animals in need, even during the most difficult times. Today we are asking for your help to make sure that work can continue safely. By supporting this campaign, you are helping create a secure refuge for wildlife in a country where such a place has never existed before. Together we can ensure that even in the midst of conflict, compassion and protection for wildlife do not disappear. Every contribution helps bring this safe haven to life.

"One Roof" A voluntary solidarity initiative aimed at providing support for those displaced by the ongoing Israeli war on Lebanon. Based on the belief that housing and security are fundamental rights for all, and in response to the needs of displaced individuals affected by Israeli aggressions, the "One Roof" initiative was launched during the last war in 2023 and 2024 (see the Report: https://www.instagram.com/p/DIBS9-FtMFU/?img_index=1) and was reactivated with the renewal of the war on March 2, 2026. The initiative began with the goal of providing temporary free housing for the displaced by connecting them with individuals willing to host them. It is believed that community solidarity is an act of resilience and resistance to maintain a cohesive society under "One Roof." However, the increasing number of displaced individuals has made it more challenging to secure free housing or even affordable rental options. Therefore, the initiative now seeks to collect donations for the following goals: ▪️To provide the needs of families who have been provided with housing. ▪️To rent and equip new spaces to convert them into collective shelter centers. ▪️To meet the needs of the families who will benefit from these centers. Join us! Your support for the "One Roof" initiative is a step toward preserving the dignity of affected families and ensuring their right to safety and housing. With your donations, we can provide shelter for those in dire need and enhance their resilience in the face of these crises. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a significant difference. Let us unite under "One Roof" and share the responsibility.

Dignity in the Final Chapter
Circle of Life (COL) is a community care programme operating on Idjwi Island in the South Kivu Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Founded in June 2019 by Mwema Jimmy, COL visits over 200 elderly men and women every month — bringing food, repairing homes, and ensuring that no one dies undiscovered and alone. Circle of Life operates as a project of PROLASA International (Programme International des Laïcs pour la Santé), a registered international NGO with over 40 years of humanitarian work in the DRC, headquartered in Canada with operational offices in Goma, North Kivu. PROLASA holds a Framework Agreement with the DRC Ministry of Planning (signed March 2021) and has been a recognised development actor on Idjwi Island for decades. Who We Serve Idjwi Island is the second-largest lake island in Africa, home to over 200,000 people, reachable only by boat, and entirely outside the reach of national social protection systems. There is no government pension, no elderly care infrastructure, and no other NGO dedicated to its ageing population. My name is Mwema Jimmy. I live on Idjwi Island, in the middle of Lake Kivu, eastern Congo — one of the bigest Seven years ago, I started an NGO called Circle of Life because I could not look away from what was happening around me. The young people of Idjwi are leaving — to Bukavu, to Goma, to Kinshasa to look for jobs and opportunities. What they leave behind are their parents and grandparents. Old people in their seventies, eighties, nineties. Completely alone. No pension. No welfare. No one whose job it is to check on them. No one — except my team and me. For seven years, every month, I have used a portion of my own small salary to buy food and fuel. My volunteers and I visit over 200 elderly people. We bring corn flour for their porridge. We sit with them. We repair their broken roofs. We check that they are still alive. Sometimes, they are not. I have arrived at a home and found someone who had been dead for a week. A whole week. Alone. Undiscovered. No one had known. I visit a woman who cannot move herself. Every morning a neighbour carries her outside and leaves her in the sun. If he comes back that evening, she is brought inside. If not — she stays through the night. Exposed. Immobile. Alone. Unable to call for anyone. When I come and sit with her, she takes my hand and does not want to let go. I have seen people who own one set of clothing. People sleeping on straw on floors that flood when it rains. People with TB and infected wounds and no one to take them for care. People who have not spoken to another human being since the last time I came. There is no government for them here. There is no other NGO. There is nothing — except us, on almost no money, every single month. I run a small corn milling business on the island. When the mill runs properly, it earns a profit. That profit is everything: the food I bring, the medicine I buy, the roofs I fix, the blankets I carry. The machines exist. What I need is the operational funding — fuel, maintenance, working capital — to keep it running. I have the machines. I have the volunteers. I have seven years of trust built with these communities. What I do not have is enough funds to do this properly.

For each other - نحنا لبعضنا
In response to the escalating crisis in Lebanon and the growing number of displaced families across the country, Man wa Salwa, a Lebanese NGO officially registered under No. 2100 at the Ministry of Interior, is intensifying its humanitarian efforts to support those most affected. Since 2023, Man wa Salwa has operated a consumer cooperative in the Beirut neighborhood of Furn El Chebbak, with a clear mission: to build a self-sustaining community where families can access essential goods at fair and affordable prices while supporting local producers. Through collective solidarity, we have built a strong network of more than 450 families in Furn El Chebbak and surrounding areas. Today, as many Lebanese families are displaced—living in shelters, schools, or even on the streets—the need has become urgent and overwhelming. Man wa Salwa is mobilizing its resources to: • Provide food parcels and essential supplies • Support displaced families seeking refuge in Beirut • Strengthen community-based relief initiatives across Lebanon • Ensure that donated funds are used directly to purchase essential goods We are calling on people inside Lebanon and especially members of the Lebanese diaspora to stand in solidarity during this critical time. Every contribution — no matter how small — can help provide food, dignity, and relief to families facing hardship. Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind. Picture credit: Cendrella Azar
